Axinora is a photonic design house backed up by experts with a hands-on experience in photonic integrated circuits and technologies.

Over the years, we have dedicated ourselves to gaining a deep understanding of the physical nature of photonic devices. This has allowed us to acquire profound knowledge of fundamental effects, which are crucial when it comes to finding the optimal solution to any given problem. Our Strengths

Our photonic design house is specialized in solutions for silicon photonics. This includes material platforms based on silicon, amorphous silicon, silicon nitride, silicon-rich nitride, silicon oxynitride and others.

We are proud to offer designs with excellent performance metrics, which can be realized with low technological demands and high robustness against fabrication deviations. We have an extensive experience in the conceptual design, development, prototyping and testing of integrated photonic interfaces and polarization handling devices. Such components play a crucial role in many different aspects.

Light delivery to or from a photonic integrated circuit belongs to the most essential functionalities. At the transmit side, a number of different problems has to be addressed, depending on the optical coupling concept: using an external light source, an optical fiber, a free-space optical link or a combination thereof; or relying on a III-V light source co-integration. We offer efficient coupling interfaces considering the specifics of both approaches.

At the receive side, polarization diversity is often mandatory, whereas the manipulation of light's polarization is a non-trivial problem in systems based on a high refractive index contrast technology. Our polarization handling devices achieve ultimate performance with a very low polarization crosstalk.

Within a photonic integrated circuit, various functional building blocks may be needed. We provide comprehensive solutions for various aspects of optical processing, such as spot-size adaption, polarization and mode conversion, splitting, filtering, and controlling.

We offer photonic design, prototyping and consulting services and work with our customers to understand their requirements and deliver customized solutions.

Consultancy

Our consulting services cater to a wide range of customers, including those with a photonic background as well as those who may have no prior experience with optical systems. Our assistance covers topics such as:

  • Comparison of photonic platforms - we analyse general inquiries with regard to the choice of an appropriate material system and technology, considering the concrete customer's needs and requirements. We identify at early stage potential design, fabrication and compatibility issues.

  • Support on photonic design - we support customers during optical design projects facing optimization bottlenecks.

  • Troubleshooting - we perform a thorough investigation of unexpected performance issues of existing designs and indicate potential factors hiding behind the occurrence of those issues.

Photonic Design, Simulation and Prototyping

Process design kits, including a library of technology-adapted components, are standard for photonic foundries. However, these components require often an adaption, when used into a different application aspect, where other properties and/or performance metrics are required. We provide custom services, including:

  • Concept, numerical simulation and optimization of customized photonic components.

  • Analysis of integration and compatibility issues.

  • Analysis of issues and challenges related to packaging requirements.

  • Design of experiment, analysis of experimental results.

Pre-Developed IP Library

Customers will benefit from pre-developed design IP in the area of high-index contrast integrated optics.
